Sure, most of the time it ended up being work I didn't really like--if I'm going to show off my looks, I'd rather do it as a woman, not what everyone else sees me as, but it's still work I put my everything into! It's what gotten me this far in the modeling world, and it's something Knights still does! Sorry that you aren't elegant enough to get work like that, Yodaka-chan! But that doesn't mean you get to say whatever the hell you want about work you could never dream about being given!

( oh, she started yelling. arashi forces herself to relax her hands (just when had they turned into fists? when had her palms started to hurt from her nails?) and sighs, shaking her head.

You know, I don't actually need your help with picking out fabrics, so why don't you just run back home like a good little boy and go back to doing whatever the hell was sooooo much more important than answering your door the first time I knocked?

[ he takes an involuntary step back at her raised voice, that same fear flashing across his face from the time they reunited, and he knows that shrinking won't help ease her or her fury but he does it without thinking anyway, pressing his phone against his chest and his other hand going with it as a tremor wracks his body. ]

I... [ it infects his voice, just a waver, small and quiet compared to narukami's own. ] I was just... drawing, that's all. I was just drawing.

[ he hadn't wanted anyone to see, not until he was done -- but that's not important, it's just the first thing that comes out. it's different than the indignation he might have displayed before, and he takes another step back. kaname doesn't want to leave. he still has things to ask her, as stupid as it is. ]

... Narukami, let's... just forget it, alright? You're right, I haven't been called upon to do work like that -- despite my age, they've yet to ask me to pose in such ways. HiMERU... I'm simply a fan of him, so I became heated. That's all. I hadn't meant to be so harsh.

( it's not so hard to live with people who don't understand you, but she has vastly preferred the dormitory to her own home.

so even if she's mad at yodaka, even if she's hurt, she won't make things awkward. she'll smile and act like they're perfectly good friends, especially in front of his brother, because he was nice enough to offer her a place to stay. he could have just kept it to him and yodaka--no one would blame him, and she expected that, too--but he still offered.

all that she's done for them? so far, all she's done is make at least one of them upset...

she shakes her head again, but it's still not at him. what is for him, though, is her sigh and gesture for him to follow her. it'll be quiet while they keep on to the nearest market, but eventually, arashi will pipe up: )

( and she sounds like she means it, because she does. she, of all people, doesn't want to be hated... her voice is still a little strained, her posture tense, but she's making an effort, like always, to smooth things over, to make it all okay again. passable, at least. ) I'm not a very good senior, am I? So things like that. I've also been drawing things to practice needlework with, such as flowers and their companions. It's easier to visualize on paper beforehand.

( a year ahead is still a year ahead, yodaka-chan, just like a month is still a month. it doesn't matter if they're supposed to be the same age in her time: he's two years behind her in his current existence, so there.

kaname looks at the stalls as they pass and can't even begin to think of what he'd need, much less want, for his own decor. ]

[ he'll be helping with the sewing on it, too... he doesn't know how well he'll do, in truth -- the cross-stitch he's been doing is a lot different than putting together fabrics -- but confidence will surely lead him through. besides, it's sort of fun to just look at all the colors and patterns, the feel them.

he flushes at the beginnings of narukami's talk, though, biting a grin threatening to split his face in two as he very much focuses on the task at hand. he had? ah, of course he'd caught HiMERU's eye every now and then, but to be watching the whole time...? kaname pushes his hair behind his ear, the shorter strands falling despite his effort, and his hand lingers on his warm cheek. ]

... Mmhmm. We'd only spoken over the phone before that, [ but he doesn't seem any less happy, ] so I was... rather surprised by how alike we looked. I was happy, though. Since I knew we were brothers.

[ it's different than how narukami's concerned by how alike they look. kaname's enthralled. in love with it. proof, physical proof, that they're brothers -- and he stills as he thinks of the way HiMERU had looked at him when kaname had mentioned their relation, how he hadn't thought the same at first sight, how he'd been asked to prove it...

... but it turned out okay, didn't it? he presses his lips together, shaking his head. it turned out okay. they'd held hands and gone to the church, they'd talked and gone home, they'd made dinner together and-- there had been a lot of tears, but kaname had been tired and hungry and exhausted in a thousand ways all of them having to do with the man who'd carried him to their temporary home. but it was fine.

... He's far more affectionate than I thought he'd be, [ a little hesitantly. ] He always seemed... more distant on the phone, far busier. My brother wasn't one to waste time or words if he could help it, but he did always listen. No matter how long I talked, he listened.

[ kaname just can't pinpoint, exactly, the cut off times. when he became too pushy, right? too affectionate? it happened here, too -- and he obeyed the commands immediately, tucking away every scrap he still had to give to his brother. for another time, for never. ]

Maybe it was just our distance that'd been the problem. And the island itself, of course -- I don't think I'll be able to monopolize my brother as much as I did prior.

You live together, so you'll be able to monopolize him plenty.

( yeah, his brother will probably be out doing his old man activities, but he gets to wake up every morning and see him; the nest isn't so big that they won't see each other in passing; they have meals together; and they can say good night, too. it's wonderful. )
